Passwordless Sign-in

Problem: Many Xfinity customers get Peacock at no additional cost as part of their home internet service—but not everyone is signing up.

Solution: Make signing up and signing on effortless by automatically signing in customers who open Peacock on their Xfinity WiFi network. I was the only content designer on this project.

Results: Three weeks after launch, we saw:

  • 152K cumulative unique users of this feature

  • 10.8K daily active users of this feature (7-day rolling average)

  • 97% overall login success rate using this feature

  • ZERO customer support contacts related to this feature

Making Sign-up Effortless

No other streamer has this kind of sign-in, so we wanted to make it as delightful and easy as possible. Our messaging tried to emphasize that this was magic (e.g., using words like “Presto!”).

A screen upon launch of the Peacock app that says "Presto! You're automatically signed in with your Xfinity network"

Because of this feature, users can have a Peacock account without ever setting a password. We first let them know that they have free access to Peacock in a transcomm:

Then, if they start watching Peacock without setting a password, we remind them to do this, emphasizing the benefits of having a password (changing settings, watching Peacock off their home WiFi):

If they want to watch on a device away from their Xfinity WiFi, and they haven’t set a password, they’ll see this message on the launch screen:

Banner notification: "You're no longer connected to your Xfinity home network. You'll need a password to sign in."

At this point, they can set their password through the sign-in flow using a one-time code.
